Getting boat and marine parts remade
Hatch clips, line guides, instrument and switch covers, cup holders and interior fittings. Sunlight and salt water demand the right material; anything keeping the boat afloat stays certified.
Post your part — free Posting is free. You pay only if you accept a maker's quote.

Boats are kept for decades and their builders come and go, so small fittings are often unobtainable. On deck, plastic parts face strong sunlight and salt water; below deck, damp.
Makers can remake many non-structural fittings in UV-resistant plastics or machine them in suitable metals. The limit is clear: nothing that keeps water out, holds a person or carries rigging load.
Parts makers commonly remake
- Hatch and locker clips and catches
- Instrument, switch-panel and socket covers
- Line guides and fairleads for light lines (not load-bearing)
- Cup holders, interior storage and trim
- Curtain and cushion clips
- Rod-holder caps and accessory brackets
- Vent covers (not through-hull fittings)
Materials and processes
ASA
UV-resistant deck parts (Prusa: suitable for outdoor use, up to 93 °C).
Nylon
Tough clips; note it absorbs water, so ask the maker how it behaves wet.
PETG
Interior fittings below deck.
Machined stainless steel or bronze
Metal fittings, chosen for salt water by a maker who knows marine alloys.
Don't have these remade
- Through-hull fittings, seacocks and anything below the waterline
- Rigging, standing and running gear under load, cleats and winch parts
- Steering, rudder and engine-control parts
- Gas systems for cooking and heating
- Lifelines, stanchions, harness points and safety equipment
- Fuel-system parts
Buy certified originals for these and have them fitted by a qualified person. The safety page explains why.
Try these first
- Ask the builder's owners' association or class association for sources.
- Chandleries can often match generic fittings.
- Check boat breakers and used-parts listings.
If nobody sells the part at a sensible price, a maker is the next step.
Good to know
Say whether the part is on deck in full sun, in the cockpit, or below deck: the material differs.
What to put in your post
- Boat builder, model and year.
- Where the part is fitted and what it is exposed to.
- Fixing type (screw sizes, rivets) and the mating surface.
- Photos from every side with a ruler in shot, and the measurements that matter. The measuring guide shows how.
Step by step: find the model number, measure the part and photograph it for a quote.
