Garden equipment and power tools are built to last for years but live hard lives in sheds and sunlight. At community repair events, power tools brought in for repair averaged about 10 years old (Open Repair Alliance data via U.S. PIRG Education Fund, October 2024).

Plastic parts that break here are usually clips, covers, knobs and grass-box parts. Sunlight and impacts are the enemies, so ASA and nylon are the usual materials.

Parts makers commonly remake

Materials and processes

ASA

Outdoor parts in sun and rain (Prusa: UV-resistant, up to 93 °C).

Nylon

Clips, catches and parts that take knocks.

PETG

Shed and indoor storage clips.

TPU

Grips and bumpers.

Don't have these remade

Buy certified originals for these and have them fitted by a qualified person. The safety page explains why.

Try these first

  1. Find the model number on the tool's label and check the brand's parts service.
  2. Garden-machinery dealers often stock or can order discontinued parts.
  3. Look for used tools of the same model sold for parts.

If nobody sells the part at a sensible price, a maker is the next step.

Good to know

Austria's repair bonus from January 2026 lists cordless drills among eligible items for professional repair (Salzburg24, January 2026).
