Getting bike and e-bike parts remade
Mounts, cable guides, covers, caps and bottle-cage adapters are fair game. Stems, bars, seatposts, forks, brakes and e-bike battery parts are not.

Bikes are among the most repairable things people own. In Repair Café data for 2017, bicycle repairs succeeded in 88% of cases, against 65% on average and 55% for electrical appliances (Repair Café Foundation, January 2018). Standard parts help: most wear parts are still sold.
Where makers come in is the small, model-specific plastic: the cover over an e-bike's controller, a cable guide, a light or computer mount, a mudguard stay clip. For anything that holds a rider or stops the bike, buy certified parts.
Parts makers commonly remake
- Light, computer and phone mounts
- Cable guides, clips and frame protectors
- Mudguard and rack clips (non-load-bearing)
- End caps, plugs and dust covers
- E-bike display and controller covers (not the battery or its mount)
- Bottle-cage and accessory adapters
- Kickstand feet and chain-guard clips
Materials and processes
ASA
Sun and rain: covers and mounts that live outdoors (Prusa: UV-resistant, up to 93 °C).
PETG
Clips and guides on bikes kept indoors.
Nylon

TPU

Don't have these remade
- Stems, handlebars, seatposts, saddle rails and forks
- Brake levers, callipers, pads and rotors
- Pedals, cranks, chainrings and dropouts
- Child-seat mounts and trailer hitches
- E-bike battery cases, battery mounts and chargers
- Anything that clamps to carbon parts
Buy certified originals for these and have them fitted by a qualified person. The safety page explains why.
Try these first
- Take the bike to a local bike shop: most wear parts are standard and stocked.
- For e-bikes, ask the dealer or the drive-system brand for model-specific parts.
- Check used-parts listings and forums for discontinued covers and mounts.
If nobody sells the part at a sensible price, a maker is the next step.
Good to know
In the EU, products with batteries for light means of transport, such as e-bikes, are on the right-to-repair directive's list of products manufacturers must offer to repair. See the repair law page.
Austria's repair bonus from January 2026 excludes bicycles and e-bikes (Salzburg24, January 2026).
What to put in your post
- Make, model and year of the bike or e-bike, and the drive system for e-bikes.
- Tube diameter or the mounting point the part clamps to.
- Whether the bike is kept outdoors.
- Photos from every side with a ruler in shot, and the measurements that matter. The measuring guide shows how.
Step by step: find the model number, measure the part and photograph it for a quote.
