Getting musical instrument parts remade
Control knobs, switch tips, cavity and battery covers, synth slider caps, keyboard parts and case fittings. Structural and acoustic parts are a job for a luthier or technician.
Post your part — free Posting is free. You pay only if you accept a maker's quote.
Instruments outlive their spare-parts lists. A vintage synth missing slider caps, a guitar with a lost battery-compartment cover or a keyboard with a broken music-stand clip can still play perfectly.
These small parts suit makers with resin and FDM printers. Matching the look (colour, texture, printed markings) is often as important as the fit.
Parts makers commonly remake
- Control knobs and switch tips for guitars, amps and synths
- Slider caps and keyboard pitch-wheel parts
- Battery, cavity and truss-rod covers
- Music-stand clips and pedal parts (non-structural)
- Case-latch covers and accessory holders
- Drum-hardware caps and wing-nut covers
Materials and processes
Resin
Detailed knobs and caps.
PETG
Covers, clips and holders.
Machined brass or aluminium
Knobs and fittings where the original was metal.
TPU
Feet and buffers.
Don't have these remade
- Mains-powered amplifier parts, power switches and their covers
- Neck, bridge and tuning-machine parts under string tension
- Stands that hold heavy instruments overhead
- Mouthpieces and parts that go in the mouth, unless the material is documented as safe for it
Buy certified originals for these and have them fitted by a qualified person. The safety page explains why.
Try these first
- Ask the brand or an authorised dealer for the part number.
- Check vintage parts sellers and donor instruments.
- Ask a luthier or technician whether the part is structural.
If nobody sells the part at a sensible price, a maker is the next step.
Good to know
For knobs, give the shaft type (solid, split, knurled), its diameter and the knob height, and a photo of the markings to copy.
What to put in your post
- Brand, model and year of the instrument.
- Shaft or fixing details, and the finish to match.
- How many you need for a matching set.
- Photos from every side with a ruler in shot, and the measurements that matter. The measuring guide shows how.
Step by step: find the model number, measure the part and photograph it for a quote.
