Getting kitchen gadget parts remade

Lid catches, knobs, feet, drip-tray parts and holders for coffee machines, blenders, mixers and other small kitchen appliances. Heat, water and food contact set the limits.

Small appliances are where the spare-part gap hurts most. The ITU and UNITAR Global E-waste Monitor 2024 counts small equipment such as toasters and vacuum cleaners as about a third of the world's e-waste, around 20 billion kg in 2022, of which only 12% was formally recycled. A cracked lid catch or a lost drip-tray grille should not send a working machine to that pile.

Manufacturers have started to publish printable parts. In 2025 Philips and Prusa Research piloted Philips Fixables, free files on Printables for consumers to print replacement parts at home, starting with a comb for the OneBlade shaver (TCT Magazine, May 2025). For other brands, a maker can often remake the part.

Parts makers commonly remake

Materials and processes

PETG

Water-resistant for tank lids, drip trays and clips; Prusa says suitable below 80 °C.

Polycarbonate or nylon

Tougher catches and hinges that see some heat.

TPU

Non-slip feet and bumpers.

Food contact

Ask which material the maker can document for food contact, or buy the original. Layer lines can trap residue.

Don't have these remade

Buy certified originals for these and have them fitted by a qualified person. The safety page explains why.

Try these first

  1. Check whether the brand publishes official printable files or sells the part.
  2. Search the model number with spare-part retailers and used listings.
  3. Check whether a repair bonus covers the appliance where you live (Austria's includes coffee machines).

If nobody sells the part at a sensible price, a maker is the next step.

Good to know

Austria's repair bonus, from 12 January 2026, pays 50% of a repair at a participating business up to 130 euros per device, and lists coffee machines among eligible items (Salzburg24, January 2026). It covers professional repairs, not a part you have made yourself.
